On the Front Cover my magazine mainly challenges conventional ways. Most magazines use basic fonts for their text, however I used a stylised font to give the magazine an exciting vibe and to make it unique from other magazines and to represent the target audience who are young adults.
I used an array of colour for my magazine which develops tradition ways a magazine is laid out. I did this to show the adventure of the magazine and how the music is colourful, in a sense. My magazine of course uses ways that other magazines use. I have used conventions like a pug which is used in the magazine "Q", I however developed this to show what genre of music my magazine was selling.
My magazine does not use conventional ways with the central image as I waned the dark wall to be clearly seen in the background as it creates mystery while typical magazines have a large central image with a single coloured background. My magazine uses a news feed area because it is a great way to show the content of your magazine on the Front Cover. This is used in many magazines like "NME" and "KERRANG!".
I used a feature story titles with the artists name as other magazines use. This shows the audience what to expect in the magazine. I used puffs like other magazines because it does attract the reader and also can give vital information to them. I used a strap line because I saw another professional magazine was using it in a way to say it was the best magazine.
On the Contents Page I used stars as symbols for the page numbers, this ties in with the audience and I used an array of colours to make it more appealing. I used synergy like other magazines with the background so it all links up together. I added pictures in to keep with the storyline of the magazine and to use the space wisely. I did 113 pages because that is a typical maximum page number for a magazine. I originally had 30 but it was definitely too low.
I kept the pug throughout my pages because I thought it was an important symbol of the magazine. Most magazines only have a pug on the Front Cover but I developed this way and put it on every page. The font for the copy is unique as I used boldness and an outline to make it stand out more. This is never done in magazines for large text but it made my magazine much easier to read with the wall background.
I have used typical conventions other magazines have like my masthead behind other images, the issue number, barcode, the way my contents page is set and the use of quotes as I learned from other magazines that this was how theres was set.
Overall, I wanted to use typical ways magazines were laid out but I stylised it so it was unique and different to make my magazine more interesting to read for the audience.
